Seberang Perai Shopping

North of Taiping towards the coast, Seberang Perai – also known as Province Wellesley – is an industrial town dominated by flat landscape. The peninsular province of the largely island state of Penang, the narrow hinterland is located relatively far away from the backbone of mountains that dominate the western seaboard. There’s little to detain you here but if you’re waiting for your next transport conveyance, there are a few shopping centres in town that will keep you occupied. Lying right on the quayside, the Sunway Carnival Mall is noteworthy due to its size and relative-novelty. Additionally, there are a number of hypermarkets and retail stores in the area including Tesco and Carrefour.

AEON Seberang Perai City

Opened in 2008 and located in Bandar Perda, the whitewashed three-storey AEON Seberang Prai City is one of the latest and largest shopping complexes in Seberang Perai. Housing an extensive variety of retail stores, the new kid on the block is an especially popular shopping outlet with tourists.

Carrefour

Tesco and Carrefour are the main players in Seberang Perai’s supermarket scene. Carrefour is located in Seberang Jaya Perai and you’ll find most of what you need here; the hypermarket is bright and airy and its commercialized appeal is oddly comforting.

Megamall Seberang Perai

Located right after the Penang Bridge towards Butterworth, Megamall Seberang Perai is another one of mainland Penang’s major shopping complexes. Housing a bowling alley and a movie theatre, it’s not as popular as Sunway Carnival Mall or AEON Seberang Perai City but it still has a good variety of retail stores.

Sunway Carnival Mall

The four-storey Sunway Carnival Mall is one of Seberang Perai’s largest malls. The 800,000sqft complex houses an extensive variety of retail stores including a Parkson Grand and Giant hypermarket; food outlets include fast food chains such as KFC, Starbucks, Pizza Hut and Nando’s.

Tesco Extra Seberang Perai

Another hypermarket in Seberang Perai’s supermarket scene, Tesco is a favourite superstore option amongst Malaysians. Essential items such as rice can be had at especially good prices and locals claim that it’s got a better range of merchandise than Carrefour. The Wal-Mart-like establishment is located within a residential zone.
