Queensbay Mall in Penang

Queensbay Mall is the largest shopping centre in Penang. Minutes away from the Penang Bridge, it is a waterfront complex in Bayan Lepas near the airport. The mall is home to mid-level restaurants, branded clothing stores, electronics shops and even a large Golden Screen Cinemas complex.

Spanning 73 acres, the 2.5 million-sqft complex sports the tagline ‘It’s all happening here!’ and indeed it is one of the island’s most popular shopping centres. Opened in 2006, it is one of the country’s largest malls and is similar to Gurney Plaza, although this retail complex is newer and there are more stores.

The five-storey Queensbay Mall has 10 anchor tenants, including Jusco, Borders and Harvey Norman, plus over 500 stores with brands such as MNG Mango, Liz Clairborne, Nichii, Quiksilver, British India, Gap, Timberland and Elle. There is an integrated entertainment zone on the third floor with a multi screen movie theatre (Golden Screen Cinemas), karaoke centre (Neway Karaoke Box) and more.

Shopping In Comfort

Some locals will tell you that acquiring bargains in Penang involves wandering the narrow streets and alleyways off Jalan Penang, Jalan Burmah and Lebuh Campbell. However, true Penangites will also tell you that the air-conditioned interior of Queensbay Mall makes for a far better shopping afternoon on the island.

Besides the fact that you will be shopping in comfort, the mall has almost the same selections of merchandise as anywhere else on the island. Bargains can be found without difficulty, especially during sale periods and Queensbay is one of the few places on the island where you can find designer brands.

How to Get There

Also accessible via a short drive down the east coast from Georgetown, a cheaper way to get to Queensbay Mall from anywhere on the island is to take the Rapid Penang bus #307.
