Graceful and elegant, 32 at the Mansion is a restaurant that fronts the sea, offering unobstructed views of the coastline-hugging Georgetown. The restaurant is divided into several sections - lobby, lounge and dining room - and the views from all sections are incredible. If you grab a seat in the dining room, you can look past the gauzy white curtains which billow with the gentle breeze, through the Georgian-style windows, and see the water’s edge over a low brick embankment. However, we recommend a table at the outdoor gazebo, where you sit on the grass and can fully appreciate the gently lapping waves.
Vying for your attention is the Anglo-Indian restaurant’s classic French haute cuisine with Asian influences which is unique and full of flavour, put together by the highly-skilled Chef Mathijs Nanne from The Netherlands. Meanwhile, the restaurant’s 1920s colonial glamour decor (think, ornate frieze work, gilded mirrors, chandeliers and arched stained-glass windows) pairs up with the views, food and efficient service to create a dining experience that is second-to-none. Set on the grounds of Parkroyal Hotel Penang, Uncle Zack By The Beach is an informal yet smart restaurant that manages to be both plush and cosy. Diners can expect a menu of western comfort food that ticks all the right boxes, with an emphasis on local ingredients. Electric camping lanterns light the place, with white cloth-covered tables and blood red bucket seats set on the well-manicured lawns or on a wooden deck. All of them offer open views of the ocean, especially if you choose the deck seating as you sit slightly higher than ground level, thus offering better views.
Experimentation is encouraged, with the create-your-own wood-fired pizza – toppings including feta cheese, black olives, spinach and mushrooms. Besides that, standout mains such as the baked Portuguese-style seafood (stingray, prawns, cuttlefish, snapper and mussels) with a spicy tomato sauce, strikes just the right note.

Everything about Beach Blanket Babylon Bar & Bistro House screams sophistication, from the gauzy white curtains enveloping the open-air restaurant and palm trees towering over it to its polished dark wood floors and sturdy rattan-weaved chairs. Since its opening, it has risen to the top of the city’s dining scene, largely because the food and overall vibe are an experiment in decadence.
Staff members’ playful banter and efficient service adds into the old-world glamour to create a dining experience that is second-to-none. Steps away from the golden crescent of Georgetown’s sandy shoreline, it is set in a heritage mansion with beautifully manicured lawns. While the menu is limited, the fusion food is supremely good. Our favourite is the chargrilled rosemary chicken with black pepper sauce. Sunday is Men’s Night, when beer discounts and half price standard pours for guys really packs the place up. Read More...

Ocean Green is a seafood restaurant that manages to hold its own against stiff competition in Penang’s culinary stakes. It offers both an enviable setting right on the sand and top-drawer food that melds the best of classic Chinese seafood dishes with western touches. We recommend this restaurant especially if you would like to feel the sand between your toes and feel the spray of the ocean in your face as you have your meal.
Standouts on the menu include the grilled crab with melted cheese (RM90), plus the tender and juicy chicken satay skewers topped with thick peanut sauce (RM20). Another huge plus point for the restaurant is its friendly and efficient service. Some locals say prices are a little steep for an outdoor restaurant (RM16 for a plate of four spring rolls), but we think the food is really worth it.

Seafront Dining Restaurant & Bar is a two-storey, casually elegant Georgetown restaurant offering pretty views of the Straits of Malacca and even the Penang Bridge from its location. The food is creative and flavourful, with the kitchen offering regular promotions, including a great lunch set for only RM18, and even a 30 per cent discount for ladies’ lunch meals on Tuesday.
Just past a stone wall across the road from the restaurant is the ocean, and mild weather usually keeps the water still and produces calm surf, while seagulls soar overhead. If you would like to get better views of the ocean, head upstairs to the second floor lounge’s outdoor balcony where you can watch as cars speed along the Penang Bridge hanging over the sea.
