    Where to Party in Penang

Here are the five best nightclubs in Penang to help make your night out an unforgettable experience. The capital of the island, Georgetown, has a fun and eclectic nightlife scene, catering to Penang Island’s mix of multi-ethnic locals, expats and repeat visitors. The island’s options for a great night out are endless – from boozy beach bars and cocktail lounges to swank rooftop bars and even casual pubs.

When in the mood to dance, you have options that range from the most popular Latin dance club on the island with weekly tango lessons, or a wild night on the dance floor swaying to EDM and K-pop hits spun by DJs on turntables. It is a fact that Georgetown’s after dark scene certainly does not disappoint.

We love a few things about QEII. The first is its harbour frontage location which offers great 360 degree views of the ocean while you enjoy drinks. Secondly, this promoter of great electronic and house music helps clubbers searching for great dance unes. Managed by the same group that operates the popular Soho Free House pub in central Georgetown, in the early hours of the evening it is best known for its casually elegant ground level restaurant but past 22:00 the dance floor at the upstairs nightclub takes centre stage.

Its interior design is pretty swanky with lots of chrome, steel and glass fixtures and richly upholstered furniture, while waiting staff members reinforce its posh vibe with friendly but efficient service. Whether you are planning where to celebrate your next big birthday in style or thinking of the best place to rock out at after a stressful week at work, this nightclub and restaurant combo is the perfect venue. The next entry on our list of the Best Nightclubs in Penang is Slippery Senoritas, an icon in Penang’s nightlife scene. Set on Upper Penang Road, it stretches across three storefronts along the strip with an easily identifiable rust orange façade.

Despite its name you can expect a good mix of tunes, not just salsa, as its musical soundtrack is quite diverse. Plus, if you like performances to go along with your drink, you are in luck as the club has live music acts from local bands on most nights. Besides that the bar also puts on quite a show with its flair bartenders who throw bottles, glasses and drink trimmings into the air, and skilfully catch them, while fixing your drink. Read More...

    Soju Room Penang

Soju Room is a great choice for those keen on the electronic dance music scene. Located in the basement level of Penang Times Square, music is loud and drinks are strong making it all the more easier to move to the electronic beats at the nightly parties that go on here, which results in a weekly rave feel.

What makes it all the more great is that Soju Room certainly has a crowd of willing clubbers willing to dance the night away on the neon-lit floors with flashing lights to accompany them. Expect to get your groove on to a raw and pumping bass with DJs laying down tracks from some of the biggest names on the EDM charts.

Do not expect soul, disco or Latin tunes at M2. Instead this place is an ode to Asian beats, so expect a soundtrack of K-pop hits fused together with house dance tracks, which results in an altogether pleasurable groove-worthy dance floor. This long-running techno party takes place in the basement level of Penang Times Square, which makes it very easily accessible to visitors staying in hotels around the Georgetown area.

Expect Asian-style entertainment at this nightclub, where dancing is the main preoccupation and management imports a rotating roster of Korean, Japanese, Taiwanese and Chinese DJs to help keep the beat alive. Wednesday is free entry for ladies, with a complimentary jug of Pelican vodka cocktails for groups of four females to boot.

A nightclub topping the popular Via Pre Italian restaurant in Pengkalan Weld, Jammin’ is best known for throwing down some pretty good salsa, bachata and samba beats, and even has a weekly (Thursday) tango night. One of the spiciest and newest social dance clubs in Georgetown, you can expect a crowd on the dance floor, which will make the irresistible idea of unleashing your inner sensual moves an easy decision.

While you can sit back and marvel at the coordination of some of the dancing patrons, we recommend joining in to try to get into the rhythm of things. On our last visit, despite our notoriously bad dancing skills, we found ourselves taking part in a conga line – all in all, it was a pretty fun night!

    • Opening Hours: 17:00 – late Wednesday – Sunday
    • Location: 5, Weld Quay, Georgetown, Penang Malaysia
