1Sand Bar at Hard Rock Hotel, Batu Ferringhi0
One of the best beach bars in Penang is Sand Bar at Hard Rock Hotel. This is a great place to head to if you are in the mood for a whole lot of fun with a Caribbean vibe, and what makes it such a favourite seaside haunt are the super friendly staff members who adopt an exceptionally casual demeanour with guests, ensuring that everyone has a rockin’ good time.
Set right behind the hotel swimming pool, it resembles a large, circular Tiki hut with a genuine straw-thatched roof. Throwing the a popular early evening beach party, this is a hotspot for young people, offering great-tasting signature drinks, like the Sandyjager (a mix of Jagermeister, grenadine syrup, and orange juice). Our favourite is the Watermelon Gin Fizz, mix of watermelon juice, lime juice, ginger ale and gin, priced at RM28.
- Opening Hours: 11:00 – 23:00

This long-standing beach bar has been a local landmark since 2010, beloved by all for its fun, casual atmosphere and friendly staff members. Set right on the sands of the Jalan Batu Ferringhi beach strip, the relaxed atmosphere lasts from opening to well past midnight daily. Music-wise, expect to hear reggae beats and jazz tunes which help immensely to keep the mood thoroughly carefree.
The interior design is a comfortable mix of upscale and average Joe – think a straw-thatched roof hut, lots of fairy lights and blue lawn chairs sitting under striped umbrellas on the sand. Their drinks menu is pretty simple with beers priced at just RM10, while a Long Island Iced Tea is RM20. During daylight hours food takes centre stage (we recommend the RM14.90 spaghetti bolognaise), but by night it is all about cocktails and chilled-out grooves. Read More...

Literally turning beachfront entertainment into an art-form, a visit to Beach Blanket Babylon will leave you feeling like you have stepped into an upscale Miami open-air bar. Set adjacent to the popular 32 at The Mansion, during the day this beach bar in Georgetown offers a decent western dining menu of heartily filling dishes, priced reasonably to attract a wide variety of diners.
Drinks-wise, the menu is simple yet elegantly executed – you can look forward to beers served ice-cold in true island style, classic cocktails, non-alcoholic juices and coffee. Our favourites are the RM18 Love Bird (a mix of vodka, peach liqueur, pineapple juice and blue Curacao) and the RM18 Golden Sunset, which is a blend of vodka, southern comfort, orange, and pineapple juice.

QEII makes our list of best beach bars in Penang with its killer soundtrack courtesy of their resident DJs who play tunes from the 80s all the way to the latest dance tracks, attracting clubbers from all over the island. Set directly over the waters of Pengkalan Weld next to the Penang jetty, views are of the marina and the yachts moored.
The drinks flow from early noon until long past sunset, and clubbers can expect a fairly extensive drinks list, with the potent pina colada (RM25 per glass) and the RM25 Bleu Balls (a mix of brandy, blue Curacao and Red Bull), standing out as our favourites. Read More...
5Sigi’s Bar & Grill, Batu Ferringhi0
- Opening Hours: 12:000 – 03:00
- Address: Tanjung City Marina, Church Street Pier, 8A Pengkalan Weld, Georgetown

Located along the winding Jalan Batu Ferringhi seaside frontage, Shangri La Golden Sands Resort, the interior design at the sprawling Sigi’s Bar & Grill on the Beach makes it look like a cross between a beachside shack and upmarket hideaway perfect for all travellers. There is a fairly extensive menu of pizzas, pastas and all manner of gourmet dishes, but although the food is done well, we like to visit more for the cool all-white interior design and impressive range of drinks.
Sigi’s Bar has some generous two-for-one beer and cocktail deals if you arrive between 17:00 and 20:00 and our favourite is the minty mojitos and Singapore sling – all of which are, curiously, served in martini glasses. Water sport enthusiasts like to use the sand dunes in front of this bar as a cooling-off strip to enjoy the last rays of sun after a day out on the ocean.
