Slippery Senoritas in Georgetown
Penang's most popular dance club0
More than just a dance club, Slippery Senoritas stands out not only for its varied repertoire of music and good-looking surrounds, but also for its dedication to providing customers with an altogether different clubbing experience. It is one of Penang’s only nightclubs with flair bartenders – they take centre stage every night of the week by executing breathtaking synchronised bottle-juggling and fire-breathing performances.
We love the fact that they seem to raise the bar almost every night – on Monday they are skilfully hurling two liquor bottles through the air and catching them: by Sunday, there are cocktail shakers, swizzle sticks, a lime and straw being thrown up into the air too. This is showman bartending at its best.Read More

Opened in 2001, Slippery Senoritas instantly became one of the most impressive things to hit Penang’s nightlife scene, injecting the then-newly opened Upper Penang road with a healthy dose of street credibility. Today it remains one of the most popular and oldest dance clubs on the island.
An unsigned extra large golden wood door leads to a dimly lit space with a central bar. Inside, the owners have done a great job with the decor, with the club making use of its namesake theme by filling up every available space with colourful Mexican-inspired tile work, red ceilings and neon lights, sometimes resulting in it looking like a giant Tiki hut or a volcano.
One of the most versatile venues in town, the space has been synonymous with salsa dancing since its opening but you will only hear Latin music on nights when there is a live band playing (usually Friday and Saturday): on these nights while there are no orchestrated dance classes, few would object if you stood up and started a samba line. On other nights (Monday – Thursday) DJs Chan and Menu spin cutting-edge mixes of house, techno and electro beats. The club has a world-class sound system and is undoubtedly Penang Island's most popular dance club.
Drawing in a young vibrant crowd, two floors allow for dancing and drinking: the main dance floor’s high-vaulted ceilings and exposed brickwork give it the feel of a sexy South American dance club, while the upstairs terrace spaces are definitely made for intimate footloose action.
