Sesame + Soy is a single restaurant featuring two concepts: Sesame caters to a fine dining clientele, while Soy directs its efforts to a casual-dining crowd. Set inside G Hotel, the simple, edgy and sophisticated restaurant was listed as one of the Malaysian Tatler’s Best Restaurants in 2011.
Featuring contemporary furnishings and fixtures, it has an extensive menu of modern Chinese cuisine prepared in new, inventive ways. Take for example the lobster with pineapple, prawn with salted egg, cod with kimchi-inspired sauce, black sesame bean curd and more: it is no wonder the restaurant has such a loyal fan base.

Start off with spicy pumpkin broth: inside the soup are potatoes and onions, making it an unusual yet delicious dish. You can also whet your appetite with sour roasted duck kerabu with dried shrimp: the vegetables used are super fresh ensuring that every bite bursts with flavour, plus the mango sauce gives the dish a quirky twist.
If you are in the mood for seafood, then try the deep-fried baby squid with chilli sauce: the crunchy squid is perfectly complemented by a spicy sauce and a serving of coleslaw.
For mains, try stewed chicken with nam yu gravy, served with a side of steamed broccoli. Another not-to-be-missed dish is baked fish fillet with sambal sauce: the fish blends in beautifully with the rich sambal sauce.
If you would like to avoid the spicy dishes on the menu, repeat customers highly recommend the deep fried chicken with Mongolian sauce: the outer flesh of the meat is crispy while the meat remains tender and contrasts beautifully with the creamy, peppery sauce.
The restaurant has a chic wine collection of red and white labels. For dessert, try crème brulee: topped with creamy gula Melaka; this dish has been given a traditional twist.
