Chez Nous Cafe Penang is a quirky coffee shop that easily proves that there is more to the latte scene than java. A great little place in a tucked away location along Lorong Seck Chuan in Georgetown, the kitchen splices together Belgian dishes with lots of international influences to create a dining experience that has quickly earned it a glowing reputation.
Housed in a refurbished, atmospheric Chinese storefront renovated from its once neglected state, the café’s interior design is simple yet quirky, with seats that are few in number but strong on comfort. Definitely worth visiting, Penang’s urban, trendy set stream through the doors, snapping away at the Instagram-friendly interior, and instantly uploading via the café’s free Wi-Fi.

Interior Design
Cute and quirky are just a couple of words which could be used to describe Chez Nous Cafe in Penang. Diners can expect colourful 1950s décor, such as a decorative table made out of a manual sewing machine, worn brown leather couches with candy-coloured decorative pillows and local pop artwork.
Staffed by some of the friendliest bunch around who help keep the atmosphere very cheerful, the food menu changes fortnightly and diners can expect the kitchen to put out dishes that taste home cooked, ideally suited for major meals or even just snacks to accompany drinks. The great service, coupled together with the creatively-styled food, makes this dining experience a real treat.

The Food
Food is always artfully presented at Chez Nous Cafe Penang but presentation is always trumped by flavour with several favourite, standout dishes reappearing on the ever-rotating menu week after week. This includes Belgian meatballs, homemade ratatouille, egg fettuccini with fresh slivers of salmon, crispy Belgian shrimp croquettes and escargots à la bourguignonne. We start out by sampling the cream of tomato soup, robustly flavoured with the addition of cheese (RM15), and the fried mozzarella balls with a tangy marinara sauce (RM15).
For mains, we enjoy a platter of penne pasta with sharp pesto and salty bacon bits (RM25), a roasted chicken breast wrapped with savoury ham and given a spicy kick with the addition of paprika (RM25). Finally, we finish off our meal with a shared plate of warm waffles topped with rich Belgian chocolate ice cream – it is so good it should be illegal. An extremely useful place to take note of, with food offering such as completely satisfying experience, it is easy to see why the independent Chez Nous Cafe Penang has gained such a loyal following of diners.
