Literally meaning ‘Flower Cape’, Tanjung Bungah is a seaside suburb located between Gurney and Batu Feringghi, about a half-hour’s drive from George Town. Originally a sleepy fishing village, it has risen in popularity over the years to become one of Penang’s most popular destinations. Watersports activities are most popular in Tanjung Bungah, with Penang Water Sports Centre based here.
Tanjung Bungah is pretty quiet when compared to its more touristy neighbours, Batu Feringghi, Gurney and George Town.
Being a seaside town, Tanjung Bungah is perhaps most well-known for its miles upon miles of sandy beaches. It’s no wonder then that water sports and water-based activities are considered the main things to do here.
Plenty of dining options are available in Tanjung Bungah. From Indian to German cuisine and from shoplot restaurants to food courts, you are sure to find whatever your tastebuds fancy, even though the options may not be as wide and as varied as George Town.
There are two main spots in Tanjung Bungah when it comes to shopping – both at the opposite ends of the spectrum - one is a sprawling, modern mall and the other a traditional, humble market.
